What do you do?
We run an amazing youth group for kids age 7-11.
- Each week we have a theme. – the games are then based around this theme.
- We have people to do the squash for the kids each week (people from the church) & the kids mark them on their squash making ability! ® squash making champions league.
- We have a gospel talk each week. The talks are based on a syllabus (see below).
- We also try to memorise the catechism for that week with the kids.
Who comes?
Children aged 7-11. We have between 25-30 kids each week!
What’s been happening over the past year?
From May to July of last year we did Christianity explored with the kids, without the video, to give them some sort of foundation.
This year we have looked at three topics (one per term):
- The attributes of God ® Taken from ‘Bible Doctrine’ by Wayne Grudem. This really explained how awesome out God is and how He wants to know the children.
- Jesus’ life ® The main focus of this topic was Jesus birth, death and ministry. The aspects of his ministry were covered through the ‘I AM’ statements. These talks were also formed using ‘Bible Doctrine’ by Wayne Grudem.
- Bitesize Theology ® This term we have used a book by Peter Jeffrey called ‘Bitesize Theology’. We are looking at various doctrines dealing with the specifics of salvation. Such as regeneration, adoption and redemption. For example.
We have four young people from Nemesis helping on the 6:47 team. Jon Durke, Shaz, Rej and Garbo. They have been a real help and encouragement as they have grown in their abilities.
We have been really encouraged by the questions the kids are beginning to ask! They seem to be thinking about the implications for what they have been taught. Quite often there is a lengthy question and answer session with the children following the talk.
