ShareBT
ShareBT is a simple way of reading through the whole Bible in three years - with everyone in the church.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who's it for?
Anyone who wants to read the Bible. We have children as young as three and adults in their eighties studying the Bible together. Jesus really does break every barrier down!
What if I find it too hard to read the Bible on my own?
Then this is for you! Most people find that even if they have struggles to get anything out of the Bible that month, by turning up and listening to others, God has spoken to them. Even if they share one thing they have seen from the Bible - it is a real encouragement.
Some people listen to the Bible on their phone, others get together with a friend and read, others read on their own. Sometimes the young people have evenings where they read chunks of the Bible out loud. Some read the book in one sitting, others day by day.
There are no rules - as long as the Bible is going in!
When do groups meet?
In Mount, groups aim to meet during the 3rd full week of the month - on Tuesday night, Wednesday morning (women only), Thursday night (zoom), Friday night (men only) and Sunday morning (which is also a catch up group if you miss your usual group).
Generally people stick to one group and get to know the people in it over the three years.
Groups are led by either a church elder or a trusted church member and they are responsible for encouraging everyone to keep going and praying for their group.
What happens in the meeting?
The leader opens in prayer, and then works through the 7 questions.
The questions are always the same. They are solid biblical questions that the Bible wants us to ask as we read. Everyone shares.
People note down verses that they hadn't seen - but now have - or a verse that they want to remember. Some turn to passages and read them out. Each group is different but every group knows God's blessing and deep fellowship around His word.
At the end there is usually a time for a few people to pray. The session is usually around 30-45 minutes.
What are the questions you use?
We ask the questions the Bible wants you to ask of itself, in brackets you can see where in the Bible the question is from:
What did you learn about Jesus? (Luke 24:45-47)
What did you learn about yourself? (James 1:23 & 2 Tim 3:16-17)
How can you look like Jesus in the place that you have been sent by Jesus? (John 17:17-18)
How were you corrected and rebuked and how do you feel you need to change to be the man of God thoroughly equipped for every good work? (2 Tim 3:16-17)
What did you learn from the scripture that will help you endure and be encouraged? (Romans15:4)
What did you learn that will teach you to do works of service to build up the church at Mount? (Eph 4:11-16)
What have you learnt that helps you love the Lord your God with all your heart & with all your soul & with all your mind and what has helped you love your neighbour as yourself? (Matt 22:37-40)
Does ShareBT change the church?
The short answer is yes! Every month detailed feedback from the groups gets back to the elders who consider it thoughtfully and prayerfully.
In a Tuesday prayer meeting they share the main points that came from the groups that month.. Feedback goes up on the screens as we encourage everyone to remember the things we have learnt.
Many key decisions about church life have been influenced directly by ShareBTs … so keep reading and sharing!
